Maple Is Shutting Down: How to Choose a Family Organizer Alternative

The urgent task is not choosing a new logo. It is protecting the information your household expects to need later.

Maple's official notice says:

• the service will sunset on December 31, 2026;
• accounts remain active through that date;
• accounts will then close and become inaccessible;
• all data will be deleted and cannot be recovered; and
• users should export or transfer what they need before shutdown.

Maple's notice also references connections to Google Calendar, Apple Calendar, Outlook, and TeamSnap. A connection is not the same thing as a complete backup. Confirm which records live in Maple, which remain in an outside calendar, and which may exist only as lists, attachments, assignments, or household planning data.

The reviewed shutdown page does not publish a universal export format or promise that every type of record moves to every destination. Do not delete an account or stop checking it until you have opened the exported or transferred information somewhere else and verified the dates, recurrence, notes, and family ownership that matter.

Use this sequence while the account is still available:

1. List the Maple spaces, calendars, lists, and planning modules your household uses.
2. Identify the family member who owns each source account or subscription.
3. Follow Maple's current export or transfer instructions for each important data set.
4. Open the result outside Maple and check a sample of one-time and recurring entries.
5. Save critical attachments or notes separately if the chosen transfer does not preserve them.
6. Invite another household member to the replacement and test access from their device.
7. Keep a dated record of what moved, what did not, and what must be recreated manually.

This is especially important for recurring activities. A calendar can appear complete while silently losing an end date, an exception, an assignment, or a reminder. Inspect more than the first occurrence.

KIN is a reasonable Maple alternative only when the family's main job is a shared schedule. It gives a household one mobile timeline for events, reminders, and to-dos. Family members can use hold-to-talk or typed natural language to create and change plans, assign the relevant people, filter the timeline, and apply per-event privacy.

KIN is not a Maple migration product. It does not import Maple data, and it does not currently import or sync Google Calendar, Apple Calendar, Outlook, TeamSnap, or other external calendars. Recreating important family plans in KIN is therefore a deliberate manual process after the original data is secured.

That limitation can still fit a family that wants a clean scheduling reset. It does not fit a family whose replacement must preserve several connected calendars or recreate a broad household dashboard automatically.

A shutdown can push people toward the first available substitute. A better decision starts with the household's real dependency.

Choose a focused family calendar such as KIN when:

• the shared schedule is the central system;
• voice or typed natural-language contribution could reduce form friction;
• events, reminders, and to-dos cover the important workflow;
• iPhone and Android support is sufficient; and
• the family can keep external calendars separate.

Choose a broader family organizer when:

• shared shopping, meals, budgeting, messaging, documents, or location matter beside the calendar;
• web or desktop access is required;
• existing Google, Apple, Outlook, sports, or school calendars must remain connected; or
• importing structured Maple data is a non-negotiable requirement.

Create a test family rather than migrating everything immediately. Add:

• one one-time appointment;
• one weekly recurring activity;
• one changed pickup time;
• one household reminder;
• one assigned to-do;
• one event that originates in an outside calendar; and
• one detail that should be private from part of the family.

Invite the least enthusiastic calendar user. Ask them to find tomorrow's plan, add one event, and correct one time without coaching. Then check the same result on the other phone platform your family uses.

This exercise makes product gaps visible before the shutdown deadline. KIN should stand out when conversational capture into one household timeline is the missing behavior. A broader organizer should stand out when continuity, imports, lists, or household modules are the real requirement.

Maple says annual Maple+ subscriptions will no longer renew and monthly subscriptions remain active through December 31, 2026. Review the subscription shown in your own account and store receipt rather than assuming every billing arrangement ends in the same way.

KIN was a free download on the Apple App Store and Google Play on the review date, with optional tips shown on Apple's listing. That is a dated observation, not a promise that pricing will never change.

Cost should include migration work. A free product can be expensive if the family must manually rebuild hundreds of events. A paid product can be poor value if nobody contributes. Count the time required to verify data, recreate exceptions, onboard family members, and maintain any separate calendar connections.

Maple's shutdown makes retention concrete: it says data will be deleted after the service closes. Save what you legally and practically need, and avoid preserving sensitive household data in unnecessary copies.

KIN's privacy policy says voice recordings, typed requests, and relevant family-event details may be sent—with in-app permission—to named service providers for speech recognition and AI interpretation. It says KIN does not sell, trade, or rent personal data. That is not the same as on-device-only or end-to-end-encrypted processing.

Review the current policy of any replacement. Ask what is collected, how family permissions work, whether location is involved, how to export or delete data, and which processors receive content. A shutdown is a good moment to reduce unnecessary data as well as move essential records.

First, follow Maple's current instructions and verify your important data outside Maple before December 31, 2026. Do not treat KIN—or any other product—as a backup until you have confirmed what actually transferred.

Then choose KIN if the replacement job is one focused iPhone-and-Android family timeline with voice or typed creation, events, reminders, to-dos, assignments, filters, and per-event privacy.

Choose a broader or sync-capable alternative if your family needs calendar imports, continuing external connections, web access, or organizer modules beyond the schedule. The safest Maple replacement is the product that passes your real-week test without hiding a required feature.
